Cubs Convention 10 Days Away and Still No Details from Cubs
Anxious fans would love details regarding the upcoming Cubs Convention, but true to form, the Cubs have not revealed any such information - even as the Convention is scheduled to commence next Friday. Hopefully, information regarding the schedule and attendees will be published in the next few days.
If you don't have a ticket yet and are still looking to attend, the prices on Stubhub have started to fall somewhat. Last week, a pair of tickets with the fees included would have cost in excess of $600. As of today, a pair of tickets could be had for $530. Still a steep markup over the $108 face value but prices should continue to fall on the secondary market as the Convention approaches.

Hello, had a question about the convention. I have 2 passes and wanted to see if I would be able to take my brother 2 days and my dad 1 day. Is this possible or do they record who signs in with the pass on the first day?
ReplyDeleteThanks and GO CUBS GO!
Yes in years past different people can use the passes different days
DeleteIf you have to ask that question you are part of the bandwagon fans that cost the regular goers tickets. Where were you when they sucked??? Probably a White Soxs fan??
DeleteI hope you don't bring that negativity to the convention.
DeleteGOCUBSGO!!! YES YOU JUST NEED TO HAVE THE PASS, AROUND YOUR NECK. SUNDAY NOT MUCH GOES ON , YOU SHOULD INVEST IN GETTING ANOTHER PASS, 1ST AND 2ND DAYS ARE THE IDEAL DAYS TO ATTEND.
DeleteWhen do you get the "pull tab/lottery" cards to see if you win the chance to meet a Star player? We bought convention passes on stub hub and all we received in the mail were the passes, NO meet/greet lottery cards.
ReplyDeleteThanks
Same question I came on to ask. Did you ever find out?
DeleteWhen you check in at the convention desk, they will give you the lottery tickets and the program. Just around the corner from the hotel desk. Loyal convention attendee, 2017 is 16 in a row!
DeleteI think you get the pull tab at check in. Can some else tell us more about the chance signings of a star?
ReplyDeleteIs the line long at check in? Does every person get a star or will some get nothing?
Most people get nothing...I would say only about 10%-20% receive a pull tab with an actual person who is signing. The rest get $5 off coupons. That is how it's been the past few years. Also, the lines are very long for everything...But you do not need to receive a pull tab to meet some of the other players, it is all luck of the draw.
DeleteYou get one scratch and win ticket per pass when you check in. It is just a chance to win it does not mean you will. If you do win you pull a ball to see who you get to meet (at least that's how it was done in the past). Throughout the weekend you have the opportunity to wait in line for a variety of players. They are scheduled to sign throughout the weekend usually for one hour increments.
ReplyDeleteCorrection: my husband thinks the scratch and win are for hotel guests only. We always stay so we have always gotten them.
DeleteAlso, the pull tabs are only for the "big" name players. Which is roughly 6-8 players that you can ONLY meet IF you get their name on the pull tab. All of the other 40-50 players (current and former) are all of the variety where you have to wait in long lines to meet them.
DeleteA lot of times you can catch players coming on or off stage. Or even in and out of the hotel. I think it was easier when the convention was held at the Hilton but that's just my opinion.
Deletethey also have meet and greets for alot of players but it cost. First come on those and there limited. you get a picture and autograph. fregie Jenkins has his booth also for some good old hall gamers a small charge for his charity.
DeleteCan you attend the Chicago Cubs expo even if you don't have a pass, just to buy some baseball merchandise?
ReplyDeleteI used to find good deals at the expo but couldn't get a pass this year.
You have to have a pass to the Cubs convention to enter any of the areas including the merchandise areas.
DeleteGo to priceless.com. They had some available this afternoon.
DeleteThanks for all your replies and suggestions.
ReplyDeleteThanks Chad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just bought my passes! Thank God!
ReplyDeleteI emailed someone at cubs charities and someone email me back. No meet and greets this year. :(. Also every ticket get a welcome packet with schedule and pull tab of a premium player possibility. They will have a press release sometime soon highlighting some of the schedule but final schedule will be received at registration. Go Cubs!!
ReplyDeleteThis is how it is every year. You get a welcome package with your pass/booklets/calendar/etc. and one pull tab. Only about 10% of the pull tabs actually has a "winner" aka a player. All the other tabs you win a $5 off coupon.
DeleteI've never been to a cubs convention before, but I've been going to the fanatics for a bit now.
ReplyDeleteMy questions regarding this convention are
1.do I have to pay for anyone's auto like at other cons?
2.specifc BIG players are really only going to be available to get autos from if you draw their names??? Really???
Personally I've gotten 9 others to sign a ball and only would love to try and get rizzo, Bryant, Lester, arrieta and maddon if possible. Gotten a lot of big ones already.
1. Yes and no. Sometimes they have charity meet & greets where you pay $200 (last years price) and you can get a photo with them and 2 items signed. But they are very limited and sell out fast. Besides the meet & greets, if they have them, then the pull tabs are the only way. Big name players don't walk around anymore like they did at the Hilton, so that chance is slimmer than slim.
ReplyDelete2. All big players and HOFers are done with the pull tabs. So your best bet is to have good luck or buy a pull tab/scratch off of of someone.
Bryant, Rizzo, Lester, Arietta, Maddon are all 100% going to be scratch off/pulltabs.
So wait, the players will not be sitting at tables doing free signings at the convention??
DeleteI'm highly confused by this convention. As I mentioned I've gone to fanatics plenty of times. So this convention seems highly out of the ordinary.
I was under the impression that the players who are going to be at this convention would just be sitting at "booths" or tables and would be doing free signings but obviously the lines would be crazy long. So while you're not guaranteed to get an autograph you can at least wait in line and try.
Where as with a normal convention you pay X amount for an autograph and wait in line at their table and get their auto.
This convention has me sketched out....what's the point of going if I'm not going to be able to get anything signed??

This is why you go. It's more than just a signature.
Don't get me wrong, I go to conventions sports and non sports all year. 9 total last year. But this on is different. I have a ball with 8 autos already but really want a few more on there. I'm not looking to buy anything so no need to check out the booths right now. Meeting people is always fun but my main goal is for sure to get more autos on my ball.
DeleteI was pretty detailed in my original response to you. This is not like Fanatics in Rosemont, but there is an option (yet very limited one) to spend the big bucks for a guaranteed signature. The only way to get a bigger name guy like you mentioned is to win on a scratch off ticket/pull tab they you get when you check in at the convention. If that tab says you win, it will say a stage letter and a time of the signing. That will be a "bigger name" free autograph. If you don't win one of those, then your chances are slim of getting Bryant, Rizzo, Arietta, Maddon, etc. You have a better shot at getting a lower tier player on your baseball, like Montero, Ross, Almora, etc by waiting in the general lines.
DeleteThis year will be complete chaos, if you don't win the scratch off/pulltab, just focus on a few players and stick to it so you end up with something for the cost of your admission and time. Good luck!
Is there a best time to line up for Friday's night ceremony for a seat? What time do the doors usually open?
ReplyDeleteThe doors open at 5:00 p.m. for the program to begin at 6:00 p.m.
DeleteTruthfully, I would expect that the line will start well before 3:00 p.m. and people will probably be lined up early that morning.
Thanks for your reply!
DeleteAlso, is there a coat room available?
ReplyDeleteThanks
Yes - on the lobby level to the left of the hotel registration desk if you are standing at the doors looking to the back of the hotel. Just walk down the hallway away from Don Shula's Steakhouse and you will see it.
DeleteThanks again sackman23!
